What is a Mental Health First Aid Course?
Our Mental Health First Aid Courses will teach you to spot earlier signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, and stress - and both of our courses have been designed as an introduction to mental health to raise an awareness of how important it is to offer early intervention to individuals aged 5-17 years old, and how practising good mental health can be vital in the workplace. The courses provide an overview of mental health problems, outlining some of the symptoms and effects, and explains what can be done to help individuals feel supported and encouraged.

Who Should Take This Course?

The ASA course is suitable for all HR workers, managers, supervisors, and employers, and the ASYP course for any parent/carer, education provider or individual who works predominantly with young people, who wishes to understand more about mental health conditions so they can better support individuals, and positive mental health can be encouraged. The course is designed as an introduction to mental health and so no pre-requisite knowledge or training is needed.

Following completion of this course you will be able to:

Understand the important factors affecting mental health

Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions

Offer early intervention

Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations

Signpost to the correct professional support services

It is important to remember that our courses do not teach people to be therapists or counsellors, and do not teach people how to diagnose mental health conditions. Instead, your role is to act as a point of contact and reassurance for an individual who may be experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress and offer initial support, then signpost them to the relevant professional services. Maintaining appropriate boundaries is a key part of successfully providing mental health first aid and keeping yourself safe and well.
Course Highlights:

Our courses are both 16 hours of face to face learning, delivered by an experienced clinician, over two days.

There is a learning assessment that takes place at the end of day two, there is no pass or fail ‘grade’ but a summary of assessment of learning for each attendee will be submitted to your organisation.

Attendees will be awarded a 16-hour CPD Mental Health First Aid Certificate on completion of all modules.

Every attendee of the course will be granted 12-months access to a psychotherapist within our organisation. The purpose of this after care service is to assist them with any situations that may arise while they support individuals as first aiders.
